Our Story

Bidgeebong creates wines and winestyles that express the distinctive flavours and characters of the neighbouring wine regions of Tumbarumba, Gundagai, Hilltops and Canberra.

These regions are beginning to emerge as the source of some of Australia’s most interesting and exciting premium and super premium wines.

Within these regions, vineyards are meticulously managed and groomed to produce grapes of optimum flavour and acidity which allow us to maximise the quality in both our red and white table wines.

These wine regions from which Bidgeebong procures its fruit have diverse terroir, which are suited to the production of a wide range of wine grape varieties and hence wine styles.

The four distinct districts are characterised as: the cold climate Tumbarumba in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains, the cool to mild climates of the Canberra and Hilltops districts and the warm Mediterranean climate of the Murrumbidgee plain around Gundagai.

The expertly made Bidgeebong wines utilize both traditional and modern winemaking methods that are managed within a clean and modern winery facility. New oak barrels, natural and controlled primary fermentation techniques along with judicious use of malolactic fermentation in white wine are some of the methods that allow Bidgeebong to produce delicious wines with great depth and complexity.

The name Bidgeebong is a combination of Murrumbidgee and Billabong. The Murrumbidgee River is the lifeline of the region. Billabongs, meaning ‘places of still water’ in the Wiradjuri language, were the gathering or meeting places of the original owners of the area, the Wiradjuri tribe.

Bidgeebong's modern and efficient winery is located in the city of Wagga Wagga, close to the major wine science teaching and research centre, Charles Sturt University.
